Srinagar: Director Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs threw a lavish wazwan party for the Cabinet Minister Chowdhary Zulifkar Ali at Royal Springs Golf Course here in Kashmir Capital Srinagar on Tuesday evening.
Chowdhary Zulifkar Ali who was Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs was recently allotted Education portfolio. He kept the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs for over 3 years.
Sources said that Director Consumer Affairs Nisar Ahmed Wani spent lakhs on the party. Among the invitees were Deputy Director Central, Deputy Director Supplies, Assistant Director Rations, Assistant Director Mills, Assistant Director Stores and Commissioner Secretary Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs.
The lavish spending have raised eyebrows while some officials are seeking a probe into the source of money.
Internal sources said that it was a huge party where lakhs were spent to appease the outgoing Minister. “I don’t know the source of money spent on the lavish wazwan (Kashmiri cuisine). It needs to probed whether the money came from Department or from personal pocket of the incumbent Director,” said an official to news agency CNS who added that lavish spending on parties has become a norm in the department.
The Director seems to have the blessings of bigwigs from both BJP and the PDP," said an employee.
The employee added that instead of giving benefit, the Department is draining State exchequer. “Despite having accommodation facilities at the main offices, AD South and AD North have been operating from rental offices for which Department pays Rs 70,000 each month,” he said.
When contacted Director Central, Deputy Director Supplies, Nisar Ahmed Wani told CNS that officers on role contributed for the party. “We didn’t spend a single penny form the Department. It was our own party that we give out of affection and love for the Minister,” he said adding that it was a simple party.
