Militants Used Chinese Made Steel Bullets In Anantnag Attack: Report

SRINAGAR: Militants who carried out the attack on a joint team of police and paramilitary men in Anantnag district of June 12 that left five CRPF personnel and a police officer dead, used Chinese-made steel-coated bullets in the attack, media reports claimed on Friday.

The reports have quoted a top CRPF officer who confirmed that the five personnel killed were wearing bulletproof shields but suffered serious injuries due to the Chinese-made bullets that pierced through the protective shields.

The official added that the last time these types of bullets were used was in 2017, when JeM carried out attacks in district police lines Pulwama and another in Lethpora area targeting CRPF camps both the times. Intriguingly, no steel-coated bullets were used in an attack that took place in 2018, a report by TimesNow said.DSFASFAS

On June 12, armed militants ambushed a security force’s patrolling party at a general bus stand in Anantnag. Troops of the 116 Battalion were present inside the patrolling vehicle along with police personnel. The attack took place at 4:55 pm when the militants started firing at the vehicle, critically injuring five CRPF men and one police personnel, who later succumbed to their injuries.
