Baramullah, Aug 2, KNT: Peoples Democratic Party President and former Jammu Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti Friday said that it is the responsibility of mainstream politicians to safeguard the special status of the State. “It was late Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah and National Conference that subscribed to Indian Constitution and thus it is our responsibility, the responsibility of all mainstream politicians in absence of Hurriyat leaders who are languishing in jails to safeguard the special status of Jammu and Kashmir,” Mehbooba Mufti said.
She was addressing party workers at Dak Bunglow Baramulla here in North Kashmir.
Mehbooba Mufti said that elections will anyhow be conducted in the state earlier or later but this time it is important to safeguard the special status.
She said the way BJP leadership have been making statements over Article 35A, Article 370 have created doubts in the minds of people. “The mobilization of troops, sidelining of local police indicate that something is going to happen here,” she said.
Later on while speaking to Reporters, Mehbooa Mufti declined to comment when asked whether Farooq Abdullah met Prime Minister Modi to save himself from Cricket Scam. However, Mehbooba said that she was disappointed when Omar remarked that they discussed only elections with the Prime Minister. “Whether Farooq Abdullah had gone there to save his skin or not but Omar’s statement was disappointing one.” (KNT)
