Special Scholarship Scheme Offers Reserved College Seats for J&K Students

Srinagar, Mar 1, KNT: The Ministry of Human Resource Development has announced a significant initiative aimed at improving higher education access for students from Jammu and Kashmir by reserving seats and ensuring timely scholarship disbursement.
According to official communication presented in the Rajya Sabha, every recognized university and institution across the country will reserve two supernumerary seats exclusively for students from Jammu and Kashmir. This decision was taken during an Inter-Ministerial Committee meeting and was revealed in response to a question raised by National Conference Member of Parliament G. N. Ratanpuri.
The Ministry stated that students from the region who are unable to secure admission through the regular process will be accommodated through this special quota. The University Grants Commission has already issued directions to all eligible institutions, and these reserved seats are expected to be available starting May.
In a separate response to another query by MP Ratanpuri, the HRD Minister said that efforts are underway to ensure timely scholarship payments to 5008 students currently enrolled in various institutions under the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme. To minimize delays and improve efficiency, the application process for future scholarships will shift to an online platform.
