Arrested ‘hybrid militant’ killed in South Kashmir encounter: Police

Police on Tuesday said that the hybrid militant Imran Bashir
who was arrested following the death of two migrant labourers from Uttar Pradesh in a grenade blast in South Kashmir’s Shopian, has been killed in an encounter with the fire from another militant.

Two migrant labourers Manish Kumar and Ram Sagar from Kanoj Uttar Pradesh were killed in Hermain village of Shopian after militant hurled a grenade. Shortly after the attack, police in a tweet said that hybrid militant Imran Bashir Ganaie responsible for the attack has been arrested.

Police later in another teweet informed that on the disclosure of arrested militant Imran Bashir another militant involved in the Hermain attack has also been arrested.

Police on Tuesday said that Imran Bashir was killed in an encounter with the fire from another militant in Nowgam Shopian.

Kashmir Zone Police in a tweet said that based on the disclosure of arrested hybrid militant and in continuous raids by police & security forces, another contact was established between militants & Security Forces at Nowgam Shopian, in which hybrid militant namely Imran Bashir Ganaie was killed by the firing of another militant.

Police further informed that incriminating material, including arms and ammunition, were seized from the encounter site and the search operation is still going on.

Divulging information about the encounter, police in a statement said that post militant incident at Hermain Shopian in the intervening night of 17/18 October, in which two outside labourers were killed by militants, investigation into the militant incident was immediately started.

During the course of investigation, it was revealed that the grenade at the accommodation of the labourers was thrown by one hybrid militant linked with proscribed militant outfit LeT identified as Imran Bashir Ganie of Hermain Shopian. The said hybrid militant along with his accomplice was promptly arrested within hours of the killing of two workers.

Police said that various joint raids along with SFs were launched on the basis of disclosures made by the accused about militants and their hideouts. In one of the raids on hideout at Dongri Nala near Landoora bridge, where although contact was established with the hiding militants but they managed to escape from the spot after the initial fire. Following his disclosure another raid was conducted in Nowgam orchards of Shopian where he had earlier met with other militants responsible for his recruitment in militant ranks besides providing a grenade to him, a joint anti-militant operation was launched in the said area in midnight at about 0230hrs after the accused agreed to show the exact place of hideout in the orchards.

Police in the statement said that during the search operation, the hiding militants fired upon the joint search party, in which the arrested hybrid militant who was accompanying and leading the search party for identifying the place got injured. He was shifted to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.

“Taking advantage of the darkness, militants managed to escape from the spot. Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition has been recovered from the spot. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation,” police said. (KNT)
