Chairman SRTC Workers Union, Wajahat Hussain has been elected as president Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) for which the elections held on Monday.
The elections for the president were held through a secret ballot. Former trade leaders including Farooq Ahmed Trali and Bashir Ahmed Bhat were independent observers.
Representatives of almost all the department trade unions and corporations took part in the process of voting.
One of the election observers told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that Wajahat Hussain was declared successful candidate for the post of president EJAC. Wajahat Hussain secured 28 votes against his opponent Shabir Ahmed Langoo who got 14 votes.
Among the 45 constituents of EJAC, 43 constituents had the right to vote. Total number of votes polled was 42.
While talking to KNT, the newly elected president Wajahat Hussain thanked all the heads of the units affiliated with EJAC for facilitating the process of election and for casting their votes for strengthening the fabric of democracy. [KNT]
