Woolens in high demand at Srinagar’s Sunday market

Sunday Market here in Kashmir capital Srinagar has been hitting with thousands of shoppers who are looking for affordable woolen clothes this winter.

A slope seller told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that this winter shoppers prefer to buy woolens to avoid the chill. “Both knitted and non-knitted winter wear are in high demand. From shawls and coats to mufflers and cardigans, the market offers a variety of winter clothes that the sellers claim are made of authentic wool and are selling like hot cake.

“I came from Kupwara to get the best woolens from this market. Of course, there is a choice, but they sell everything at exorbitant rates,” Muhammad Shafi said.

Another buyer from Pulwama district, Abdul Qayoom said that he generally shops in bulk from this market as the clothes are available at cheaper rates. “I get a good bargain here. While the styles and patterns are unique, materials are of good quality and keep you warm,” he said.

A couple of cart vendors confirmed that despite the chill, shoppers visit the market in large numbers, and the market witnesses brisk business. [KNT]
