Police held 5 ‘extortionists’ in North Kashmir’s Baramulla

Police in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district have apprehended five ‘goons’ resorting to intimidation, extortion, and blackmailing.

A police spokesperson said that Police Station Sheeri at Baramulla received a written complaint from a man wherein he stated that on 27 February last month, he was assaulted by five ‘drug addicts’ who looted Rs 20,000 from him while he was back home near Shalteng Sheeri area.

The police spokesperson said that a case was registered in this regard and after hard efforts all five accused men were arrested an booked while extortion money was also recovered from them.

The police identified these extortionists as namely Nasir Dar son of Amin of Shalteng Sheeri, Irshad Malla son Ghulam Din, Umar Akbar Ganaie son of Akbar Ganaie, Tajamul Bashir Malla son of Bashir Malla and Waseem Malla son of Manzoor Malla all residents of Sheeri Baramulla. [KNT]
