One of two brothers killed after explosive substance goes off in J&K’s Kishtwar

One among the two brothers was killed when a rusted metallic object went off while they were trying to break it with a hammer, police said.

The incident occurred in Chhatro Symbole Mughalmidan village of district Kishtwar in the Jammu region on Wednesday.

SSP Kishtwar said that two brothers Shabir Ahmed Naik (20) and Muhammad Yasin Naik (17), sons of Muhammad Abbas Naik had gone to a forest area to collect Guchhi mushrooms. On the way they probably found a rusty metallic object which they brought home.

He said both brothers started breaking the metallic object with a hammer at home. There was a blast in the process. Shabir died on the spot while Yasin is undergoing treatment.

Police have registered a case under relevant sections of law and taken up an investigation.

Meanwhile, joint forces have launched a search operation in the forest area to make sure it is free from more explosive substances. [KNT]
