Two newly recruited local militants killed in North Kashmir gunfight

Over two months old two militants were killed in an encounter in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Police said that acting on specific input about the presence of militants in the Wanigam Payeen Kreeri area of Baramulla, combines forces including Army, JK police, CRPF launched a cordon and search operation.

The police said that the search operation turned into an encounter after the militants fired upon a search party of the forces, who retaliated.

In the exchange of firing, two militants were killed, the police said, adding that the slain militants were identified as Shakir Majid Najar and Muhammad Hanan of Shopian.

“Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition, including an AK 47 rifle and a pistol, were recovered from the site of the encounter,” Police said.

This was the second encounter in the last 24 hours in the Valley. Six local militants have been killed this year in 3 encounters in Kashmir this year. Besides, 6 infiltrators have also been neutralized while six army soldiers – 5 in Poonch, one in Pulwama also died in Jammu and Kashmir. [KNT]
