Rajouri encounter claims 3 lives including 2 militants

A militant was killed on Tuesday on the second day of the ongoing encounter in Rajouri taking the toll to 3 besides the death of an army dog.

Yesterday, an encounter had raged in Narla village of Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir in which a soldier Rifleman Ravi Kumar, an unidentified militant, and an army dog Kent had been killed. The firefight started on Tuesday in which a militant and an SPO were killed.

Lieutenant Colonel Suneel Bartwal, PRO (Defence) Jammu, said that Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police had been tracking two militants since September 7. He said a contact had been established on September 12 and so for two militants have been neutralized.

A soldier was killed in the said encounter so for while three personnel including a soldier sustained injuries.

An official said that search parties engaging in the firefight have been facing difficulties on account of the rough terrain and weather. He added that warlike stores have been seized from the spot of the encounter.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi while reacting on the Rajouri encounter said that Poonch and Rajouri are the areas where they have tried to eliminate the non-local militants at the Line of Control itself. However, there are several who infiltrate through Punjab and Nepal. [KNT]
