At least 15 persons including 4 local militants and 8 infiltrators were killed in October this year in Jammu and Kashmir in different militancy-related incidents.
Joint forces foiled three infiltration bids in the Machil and Keran Sectors of Kupwara and Baramulla districts and neutralized 8 infiltrators. Last month 7 infiltrators were killed.
The data available with the news agency Kashmir News Trust reveals that the slain in October included 4 local militants, 8 infiltrators, a cop, a local civilian, and a migrant worker. Last month in September a local militant, 3 non-local militants, 7 infiltrators, a cop, and 4 soldiers were killed in militancy-related incidents.
Besides the exchange of fire between joint forces and infiltrators at Keran and Machil Sectors of Kupwara and Baramulla, three encounters raged in October in Rajouri, Kulgam and Shopian districts.
Militants carried out attacks in Anantnag, Rajouri, Edigah Srinagar, and Baramulla in October. Two soldiers were injured in an encounter at Soom and Borah villages of Rajouri. Militants fired upon a civilian Sahil Bashir Dar of Wanihama Anantnag who was injured in the attack and later succumbed to his injuries. An army officer was injured after militants lobbed a grenade in Rajouri sector on a post. In October, militants fired upon Police Officer Inspector Masroor Ahmed Wani at Eidgah Srinagar while playing cricket. Militants shot dead a migrant worker from UP identified as Mukesh Singh at Tumchi Nowpora Pulwama. Militants shot dead a police head constable Ghulam Muhammad Bhat at Wailo Baramulla.
The 4 local militants killed in October this year at Kujjer Kulgam and Alshipora Shopian were Basit Amin Bhat of Frisal and Saqib Ahmed Lone of Hawoora Kulgam, Jazim Farooq alias Abrar of Heff Shermal and Moirfat Maqbool of Cheigund Keegam.
Two infiltrators were killed in Uri sector of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, five in Machil Sector of Kupwara and one infiltrator was neutralized in Keran Sector of Kupwara. [KNT]
