South Kashmir’s Sinthan Top Attracts More Tourists In Snowless January

Must Read

A huge influx of tourists was witnessed this winter at Kashmir’s lesser-known off-beat destination Sinthan Top located in the hilly region of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

This winter when Valley mostly witnessed a dry spell in January, Sinthan Top was possibly the only destination adorned with white carpet snow. This feature as per the officials attracted a large number of tourists there.

Pertinently, Sinthan Top is a snow-covered mountain peak set at an elevation of 12,500 feet. The peak connects Anantnag in South Kashmir to Kishtwar in the Jammu region through Kokernag.

Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Syed Fakhruddin Hamid while expressing satisfaction over the influx of tourists both non-locals and foreigners told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that there is a lot of room for improvement. He said Sinthan Top has all the potential to emerge as one of the famous tourist destinations of Kashmir Valley and they have been exploring all the possibilities to attract more and more visitors.

“When Valley was passing through the phase of dry spell, Sinthan Top experienced snow. This attracted the attention of the tourists who flocked to this destination in a large number,” District Magistrate Anantnag said adding that all sorts of facilities were created for the ease of visitors.

In snowless January, a large number of tourists left Kashmir valley. Even, though tourists canceled their bookings in Gulmarg, the Sinthan Top emerged as a ray of hope for the snow-lover tourists. [KNT]
