Soldier injured, militant killed in North Kashmir gun battle

Kupwara, July 24, KNT: A militant has been killed while a non-commissioned officer (NCO) sustained injuries in an encounter in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Army said that based on specific input regarding the presence of militants in the general area Kowut, Kupwara, a Joint Search Operation was launched by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police on days leading up to 23 July 24.

It said suspicious movement was noticed on Tuesday and the suspects were challenged by vigilant troops, in response to which militants opened indiscriminate fire, leading to a gunbattle.
