Four Killed, Eight Injured as Tempo Plunges Into Gorge in Reasi

 

Srinagar, Mar 11, KNT: At least four people lost their lives, and eight others sustained injuries when a tempo vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district early Tuesday morning, officials said.

The accident occurred when the tempo, which was en route from Jammu to Bagankote, veered off the road, reportedly after the driver lost control. The vehicle rolled down into a steep gorge, resulting in the immediate death of four passengers, while eight others suffered varying degrees of injuries.

Local volunteers, along with police and rescue teams, rushed to the spot and launched an immediate rescue operation. The injured were quickly evacuated and transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. However, officials stated that the exact condition of the injured was not immediately known.

Reports suggested that the driver may have lost control due to the treacherous road conditions or over-speeding. The accident site, known for its sharp turns and steep slopes, has witnessed similar mishaps in the past.

Senior civil and police officials reached the spot to assess the situation. Efforts were underway to retrieve the wreckage of the vehicle and ensure there are no other victims trapped at the site. [KNT]
