Amit Shah Arrives in Kashmir, Set to Review Security and Developmental Affairs

 

Srinagar, Apr 7, KNT: Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Srinagar on Monday evening as part of the second leg of his three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir. His visit comes amid heightened political activity and focus on security preparedness ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Amit Shah landed at Srinagar Airport around 6:35 pm, accompanied by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, BJP’s J&K president Sunil Sharma, and Leader of Opposition in the J&K Legislative Assembly Sat Sharma. At the airport, he was received by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Advisor to CM Nasir Aslam Wani, Commissioner Secretary Shantmanu, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vidhi Kumar Birdi, Divisional Commissioner Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, and senior BJP leaders from the region.

The Home Minister had earlier arrived in Jammu on Sunday evening, where he chaired an important strategy meeting with senior BJP leaders at the party’s regional headquarters. He also visited the International Border in the Hiranagar sector of Kathua district, where he interacted with and addressed contingents of the Border Security Force (BSF), appreciating their role in safeguarding the frontiers.

In Srinagar, Shah is scheduled to hold a high-level security review meeting with top officials of the Army, police, CRPF, and other intelligence agencies. He is also expected to engage in discussions related to development initiatives with the Lieutenant Governor-led administration and the newly elected government headed by Omar Abdullah.

Soon after his arrival in Srinagar, Shah paid a visit to the residence of late DSP Humayun Bhat, who was killed during a fierce gunfight with militants in Kokernag on September 13, 2023. Bhat, just 32 years old, was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra—India’s second-highest peacetime gallantry award—on Independence Day in 2024 for his exceptional courage and service.[KNT]
