Srinagar, June 2, KNT: In a concerted effort to enforce food safety regulations and ensure consumer protection, the Food Safety Team of Srinagar on Monday conducted intensive inspections at several bakery outlets across the city, uncovering expired confectionery items during the drive.
The inspection, carried out under the supervision of the Directorate of Food Control Organisation (DFCO), covered a wide range of areas including Safakadal, Sakedafar, Nawakadal, Rajouri Kadal, and Nowhatta. Officials said that during the course of inspections, multiple cakes and other bakery products were found to be past their expiry dates.
According to officials, the Food Business Operators (FBOs) voluntarily destroyed the expired items on the spot in the presence of food safety officers. The drive was part of the department’s broader initiative to uphold hygiene standards and prevent the sale of substandard or unsafe food items, especially in light of increasing demand during festive and wedding seasons.

Citizens have also been encouraged to remain vigilant and report any concerns regarding food quality or hygiene to the department for swift intervention.
