Two Killed as Truck Plunges into Gorge on Jammu-Srinagar Highway


Srinagar, June 28, KNT: Two persons lost their lives after a truck skidded off the road and rolled down into a deep gorge along the Jammu-Srinagar Highway in Ramban district on Saturday.
Officials said the truck was headed towards Srinagar from Jammu when the driver lost control of the vehicle in the Nachilana area, causing it to plunge into a steep gorge.
Both the driver and the helper died on the spot due to the impact. The deceased driver has been identified as Raju, a resident of Udhampur. The identity of the helper is yet to be confirmed.

Police and rescue teams rushed to the site and later shifted the bodies to Sub-District Hospital Banihal for medico-legal formalities.
Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident, although preliminary reports suggest that the vehicle may have skidded due to road conditions or mechanical failure. [KNT]
