Amarnath Yatra – 2025 Pilgrims Grateful for Support, Call CRPF ‘Backbone of Yatra Route’

As the Amarnath Yatra 2025 continues with spiritual fervour and a steady flow of devotees, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has been winning widespread admiration for its unwavering service and humanitarian assistance, particularly along the Baltal axis. The CRPF’s role in ensuring both security and support to pilgrims has been lauded not just by the yatris, but also by elderly locals — the traditional poonywalas,  many of whom rely on the pilgrimage season for their livelihood.

What has especially drawn attention this year is the remarkable work being carried out by the women contingent of the CRPF, whose presence on the treacherous mountainous track has brought both safety and reassurance to thousands of pilgrims, especially women and elderly yatris. Their composed yet compassionate demeanour and tireless commitment to duty have made them a beloved and respected presence on the route.

DIG CRPF, Srinagar Central, Sudhir Kumar, while acknowledging the appreciation coming from pilgrims and residents alike, said the force feels honoured to serve. “CRPF is here not just as a security force but as a partner in this sacred journey,” he remarked. “We are deeply thankful to the pilgrims and the local community for recognising our work and expressing their gratitude.”

Pilgrims, some arriving from as far as Gujarat, Maharashtra, and West Bengal, have been seen warmly interacting with CRPF jawans, often expressing how the force’s readiness and empathy have made their journey safer and smoother. Many noted the visible involvement of CRPF in helping stranded or tired pilgrims, offering them water, directions, and medical assistance when needed.

Equally grateful are the poonywalas,  locals who ferry the pilgrims on ponies through the steep and sometimes treacherous terrain. Many of them, aged and weather-worn, acknowledged how CRPF men and women routinely help them during tough stretches, distribute refreshments, and in several instances, offer medical or physical support.

The atmosphere along the Baltal route, despite challenging weather and terrain, continues to remain one of unity, devotion, and cooperation, with the CRPF emerging not just as a security provider but as a compassionate guardian of the sacred Yatra.
