Baramulla Road to KU North Campus Patched Overnight Ahead of LG Visit; Residents Decry Long-Term Neglec
Baramulla, July 12, KNT:The vital road stretch connecting Delina to the University of Kashmir’s North Campus in Baramulla has remained in a state of neglect for nearly a decade, with residents and students bearing the brunt of official apathy. Despite frequent complaints and appeals, the road has seen no meaningful repairs since it was initially macadamized when the campus was set up.
Locals say the road, riddled with deep potholes and worn patches, becomes nearly impassable during winters, creating serious problems for students, elderly residents, and patients. “This road was never repaired after the initial construction. Our cries have long fallen on deaf ears,” said a local resident.
In a sudden flurry of activity, authorities rushed to fill potholes overnight ahead of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s scheduled visit to the North Campus on July 13. The LG is expected to attend a formal function involving the distribution of appointment letters to next of kin of victims of terrorism.

However, the last-minute cosmetic repair has sparked outrage among the locals. “Potholes are being filled only because of a VVIP visit. This exposes the hollow governance claims,” said a group of residents. “As soon as the rains return, these makeshift patches will be washed away. The government has done nothing for our day-to-day hardships.”
Locals are demanding complete and permanent macadamization of the road and have urged authorities to treat the issue as a public necessity rather than a formality tied to official visits. [KNT
