The calamity struck after the region experienced four consecutive days of heavy rainfall. Terrified villagers abandoned their homes and took refuge in safer locations as the water levels rose, leaving the entire village deserted.

Road connectivity to the area remains cut off, further hampering relief operations. Teams from the district administration were flown in helicopters to assess the ground situation and are preparing for relief and rehabilitation measures.

The Meteorological Department has already predicted fresh spells of rain and snowfall in the higher reaches of Kishtwar, adding to the apprehensions of locals and officials alike.
