In a first, American Hindu Coalition backs Pakistani American candidate in Virginia race

In what community leaders are describing as an unprecedented political move, the American Hindu Coalition (AHC) has endorsed Junaid Khan, a Pakistani American cybersecurity expert contesting for the Virginia House of Delegates from District 27.

Traditionally known for supporting Indian American candidates, the AHC said its decision to back Khan reflects a values-based approach rather than identity politics. “Junaid Khan’s commitment to safer streets, stronger schools, and accountable governance reflects the values that American Hindus cherish and strengthens the very foundation of our American republic,” the organisation said in a statement.

The AHC, a right-leaning advocacy group, has built its platform on America First economic policies, parental rights in education, religious liberty, border security, small-business growth, and stronger U.S.-India ties. Analysts noted that its endorsement of Khan is unusual, given the historic tensions between India and Pakistan, and comes just months after hostilities between the two countries following the Pahalgam militant attacks in Kashmir.

Srilekha Palle, representing AHC, said the coalition’s backing is grounded in shared conservative principles. “We proudly endorse Junaid Khan because he embodies these principles in action. As a father, cybersecurity expert, and Loudoun resident, he brings discipline, integrity, and real-world expertise, not empty politics,” she said.

Khan, a naturalised U.S. citizen who has lived in Virginia for a decade, is running on themes of “Family First, Faith in America, Law and Order, and Opportunity for All.” Expressing gratitude for the endorsement, he said, “The endorsement means so much to me. We share a commitment to service, prosperous communities, and opportunity for all.”

The seat is currently held by Democrat Atoosa Reaser. While District 27 leans heavily Democratic, observers believe that shifting demographics, including a growing immigrant population, may play a role in the November 4 election. Khan himself acknowledged the uphill battle but said support from Indian and Hindu American voters could give him a decisive edge. [KNT]
