Srinagar, Aug 23, KNT: The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association has appealed to the Government of India to reimburse the expenses borne by the family of Sabha Rasool, the Kashmiri MBBS student who died recently in Iran.
The Association expressed deep concern over the extraordinary hardships faced by the bereaved family, who were compelled to bear nearly ten times the normal airfare charges for bringing her mortal remains back home. “Despite being devastated by her untimely death, the family had to shoulder the entire financial and logistical responsibility, with only limited assistance from the Indian Embassy in Iran,” the Association said.
The Association urged External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar to personally intervene and ensure that the family is reimbursed for the extraordinary costs incurred. It further appealed to the Ministry of External Affairs to establish a formal, compassionate mechanism to assist families of Indian students and citizens who lose their lives abroad.

“Such an intervention will not only bring relief to Sabha’s grieving family but also reaffirm the Government’s commitment to stand firmly with its citizens in their most difficult times,” the Association said. [KNT]
