Kashmiri medical student dies in Iran; family appeals for urgent repatriation of body

Srinagar, Aug 15, KNT: Grief has engulfed Safakadal area of Srinagar following the untimely demise of Saba Rasool, a 27-year-old medical student who was pursuing her MBBS at Urmia University of Medical Sciences in Iran.
Family members said Saba had complained of severe pain two days ago and was admitted to a local hospital. Despite medical intervention, her condition deteriorated and she passed away in the early hours of Thursday at around 3:00 am.
Saba, a fourth-year medical student, was known among her peers for her academic dedication and aspirations to serve in the medical field. News of her sudden death has left relatives, friends, and neighbours in shock.
Her grieving family has issued an urgent appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to facilitate the swift repatriation of her body to Kashmir so that she can be laid to rest according to local traditions.

“We are devastated by her loss and request the authorities to expedite all necessary procedures so that we can perform her last rites in her hometown,” a family member said.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association has formally written to Union External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, seeking immediate humanitarian intervention. Association representatives stressed that the matter was urgent and called for coordination between the Indian Embassy in Tehran and relevant Iranian authorities to ensure the body’s safe return without delay.
