FIR registered as rotten meat racket busted in city
Srinagar, Aug 12, KNT: Srinagar Police, acting on specific intelligence inputs and in coordination with the Food Safety Department, conducted a series of raids across the city, seizing large quantities of rotten meat and sealing a cold storage unit in Parimpora where the stock was found.
Officials said the action is part of an intensified drive to curb the sale of unsafe meat and safeguard public health. Raids were carried out at multiple locations, targeting vendors suspected of selling unhygienic and expired meat products. Substantial quantities of decomposed meat were seized and destroyed on the spot under relevant provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act.
In one major operation, police and officials from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) raided a Parimpora cold storage where large stocks of rotten meat were recovered. The storage facility was sealed under applicable sections of the Food Safety and Standards Act.

Separately, acting on credible inputs at Police Station Zakoora, authorities identified Ab Hameed Kuchay of Soura, operator of Sunshine Foods at SICOP Zakoora, as a prime suspect in a conspiracy with Arif Ahmad Shah of Baghat Barzulla to supply decomposed meat to hotels and restaurants across Srinagar.
Police said this act of distributing unfit meat poses a grave threat to public health. FIR No. 48/2025 has been registered at Police Station Zakoora under sections 271, 275, and 61(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and investigations are in progress.
Authorities have affirmed that inspections and legal action will continue in collaboration with concerned departments to ensure compliance and accountability in the food supply chain.
