Two Rescued After Vehicle Falls into Drass River


Drass, Aug 26, KNT: Two men had a narrow escape on Tuesday when a Camper vehicle plunged nearly 200 feet into the Drass River near Khushal Morh, close to Police Post Minamarg.
A police official told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the vehicle, bearing registration number JK19A 1333, was on its way towards Gumri when the driver lost control and the vehicle rolled down into the river. The impact left both occupants, driver Haroon Rashid, son of Abdul Rashid, resident of Banihal, and co-driver MuhammadAbbass, son of Abdul Wahid, resident of Ramban, trapped inside the vehicle in an injured state.
Police personnel from Drass rushed to the spot and carried out a timely rescue operation, pulling out both men safely from the middle of the river. They were immediately shifted to Sub-District Hospital Drass for medical treatment.

Authorities said the quick response by police saved lives and further investigation into the circumstances of the accident has been initiated. [KNT]
