Anantnag, Sep 2, KNT: Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag has started administering anti-venom therapy for pediatric patients suffering snake bites, marking a significant development in healthcare facilities in south Kashmir.
The Department of Pediatrics has successfully treated and discharged its first patient after full recovery. Officials said the initiative, launched under the patronage of Principal Prof. Dr. Rukhsana Najeeb, will ensure that children no longer need to be referred to Srinagar for anti-venom treatment.

Dr. Showkat Hussain Tali, Media Coordinator GMC Anantnag, said the therapy is being provided free of cost to all patients up to 18 years of age. “Any patient up to 18 years bitten by a snake should be brought directly to the Department of Pediatrics at GMC Anantnag for immediate treatment and free anti-venom therapy if required,” he said.

Authorities said the facility is expected to benefit rural populations in particular, where incidents of snake bites are often reported during the summer and harvesting seasons. [KNT]
