Mirwaiz Alleges House Arrest on Occasion of Majlis-e-Rahmat-ul-lil-Alameen [PBUH]

Srinagar, Sep 13, KNT: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday said that he was once again placed under house arrest by authorities, preventing him from attending the Majlis-e-Rahmat-ul-lil-Alameen scheduled at the historic Jama Masjid in Srinagar.

Mirwaiz said respected ulema had been invited to the programme, but his confinement amounted to yet another attempt at religious interference. “Our human and political rights already stand denied, and now there is this relentless intrusion into religious affairs—from locking us up to silencing our voice on issues ranging from the Ashoka plaque at Hazratbal to meddling with Muslim calendar holidays, to disallowing religious functions at mosques,” he said.

He stressed that despite these curbs, the pulpit of Jama Masjid will remain steadfast in voicing concerns. “Whether it is interference in religious practices or blatant violation of people’s rights and their disempowerment, the pulpit of Jamia Masjid will continue to speak up,” the Mirwaiz affirmed.
