Playing with people’s emotions, says Education Minister on Eid-e-Milad holiday issue

Srinagar, Sept 5, KNT: Education Minister Jammu and Kashmir, Sakina Itoo, on Friday criticized the LG-led administration for refusing to shift the holiday on account of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW), terming the decision as an act of disregard towards people’s sentiments.
In a statement posted on X, the minister said that Eid-e-Milad, a revered occasion for Muslims across the world, should have been observed as a holiday on the correct date as per the appearance of the moon.
“This is totally unjust that Eid-e-Milad, a sacred occasion for Muslims worldwide, is not observed as a holiday on the correct date in J&K. What does ‘subject to appearance of the moon’ mean if it is not followed? Despite repeated requests from the elected Government to shift the holiday, no action has been taken. This is playing with the emotions of the people,” she wrote.
The minister further remarked that decisions regarding religious observances should rest with an elected government rather than the administration.
