Traffic Police Crackdown in Magam: Scores Penalized, Two-Wheelers Seized

Magam, Sep 24, KNT: Traffic Police Budgam on Wednesday launched an intensive crackdown against violators in Magam town under the supervision of DySP Traffic Budgam, Mujahid Nazir. The drive was carried out with the assistance of field staff and enforcement officials.
During the operation, scores of commuters were checked and several violators were penalized on the spot for flouting traffic norms. Police seized a number of two-wheelers for serious offences including helmetless riding, driving without valid documents, triple-riding and rash driving.
DySP Traffic Mujahid Nazir told reporters that the purpose of such drives is to save lives, not harass people. “Traffic rules are designed to protect riders and pedestrians. Anyone found violating them will face strict action. Today we seized several vehicles and tomorrow it could be yours if you ignore the law,” he said.
The officer appealed to parents not to allow underage children to ride vehicles, warning that handing over a two-wheeler to a minor endangers both the child and others on the road. Several seized vehicles during the drive were reportedly being ridden by teenagers without licenses.

Authorities said the crackdown came after complaints of reckless driving, wrong parking and congestion in Magam, which is a major commercial hub. Officials stressed that enforcement drives will continue across Budgam, focusing on helmetless riders, underage driving, drunken driving and vehicles without documents.
Locals welcomed the initiative, saying stricter measures were long overdue to prevent road accidents and improve traffic discipline in the area. [KNT]
