FAIMA, AIMSA Condemn Attack on Kashmiri Doctor in Jammu Medical College

Jammu, Oct 20, KNT: The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) and the All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA) have strongly condemned an alleged attack on a Kashmiri doctor at Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, calling it a deeply disturbing and communal incident that has no place in the medical community.
Reports said that the victim, Dr. Hilal, a Kashmiri doctor posted at GMC Jammu, returned to his hostel after completing night duty only to find his room vandalized. It has been alleged that a group of intoxicated doctors broke into his room and hurled communal slurs against Kashmiris.
“Some drunk doctors broke the door of his hostel room and started abusing Kashmiris,” said Dr. Mohammad Momin Khan, Vice President of the Jammu and Kashmir unit of AIMSA and National Executive Member of FAIMA.
Expressing serious concern over the incident, Dr. Mohammad Momin Khan said the matter reflects growing intolerance and hatred that threatens the harmony and unity within the medical fraternity. He urged the Chief Minister and the Lieutenant Governor to intervene personally and ensure strict action against those involved.

“Such hate has no place in the medical community. Doctors are meant to heal and not to divide people on religious or regional lines,” Dr. Khan said, adding that FAIMA stands in full solidarity with Dr. Hilal and demands a fair and transparent inquiry.
The associations have called upon the GMC Jammu administration and the Health Department to take swift disciplinary measures and restore a safe environment for all medical professionals, irrespective of region or community.
“This incident must not be brushed aside as a mere altercation. It is a test of institutional accountability and moral integrity,” FAIMA said in a statement.
The alleged attack has sparked outrage among medical professionals across the region, who have demanded immediate intervention to uphold professional ethics and safety standards in medical institutions. [KNT]
