Officials from the Legal Metrology Department checked weighing and measuring devices to verify accuracy, while Food Safety inspectors reviewed food handling conditions, expiry labeling, and product quality.
According to the official, the overall results of the inspection were satisfactory with no major violations detected. However, minor lapses related to cleanliness and hygiene were noticed in a few establishments, for which on-spot warnings were issued. The Food and Safety Department imposed compound fines amounting to approximately Rs. 4,000 to Rs. 5,000 for minor non-compliance.
Speaking to the news agency Kashmir News Trust, Shohab Latief reaffirmed the department’s dedication to maintaining strict oversight. “We conduct regular inspections across all types of food establishments, big or small. Our goal is to safeguard consumer rights and ensure that food served to the public meets all safety and quality parameters,” he said.
The department also issued an advisory urging locals to promptly report any concerns regarding food safety, mislabeling, or unfair trade practices through the toll-free numbers and official social media handles of the concerned departments.
Officials emphasized that such inspections will continue periodically to ensure all food businesses in the region adhere to government-mandated safety and hygiene norms. [KNT]
