Bovine Smuggling Bid Foiled in Kathua, Eighteen Animals Rescued, Two Arrested, Two Trucks Seized

Kathua, Nov 15, KNT: In a major action against bovine smuggling, Kathua Police on Saturday rescued eighteen bovines and arrested two persons during naka checking on the Jammu–Pathankot National Highway in the Rajbagh area. Two trucks used in the illegal transportation were also seized on the spot.

Police said a team from Police Station Rajbagh,  intercepted two suspicious trucks bearing registration numbers JK06C-1973 and JK02AB-8677 during late-night checking.

On inspection, each vehicle was found carrying nine bovines, including cows and calves, being transported in what officials described as merciless and illegal conditions. The drivers, identified as Mohd Younus son of Bashir Ahmed of Manjeen Lower Dawara and Tofim Nissar son of Nissar Hussain of Village Saimsamat Rajouri, were arrested immediately.

Two separate FIRs, numbered 222/2025 and 223/2025, were registered at Police Station Rajbagh under Sections 223 of BNS and 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Further investigation has been initiated to identify the network involved in the smuggling attempt. [KNT]
