Damaged Rooftop of Ompora Water Storage Tank Unattended for Years, Locals Seek Urgent Repair

 

Srinagar, Nov 23, KNT: Inhabitants of Ompora in central Kashmir’s Budgam district have expressed deep concern over the deteriorating condition of a local water reservoir whose rooftop has remained damaged for a long time without any repair work being taken up. The structure, which supplies drinking water to a large population, has turned into a serious worry for locals due to its unsafe condition.

People from the locality told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the damaged rooftop poses a clear threat to water quality and raises concerns about the overall stability of the tank. They said that despite repeated pleas, no restoration work has been initiated, leaving the community anxious about possible contamination and structural failure.

“We are extremely worried. This reservoir is the main source of water for hundreds of households. The damaged roof not only risks contamination but could also lead to a major mishap if not repaired immediately,” locals told reporters.

Locals appealed to the District Administration Budgam, the PHE Department and other concerned authorities to intervene without delay and restore the reservoir to ensure the safety of the water supply system.

They said timely repairs are essential to avoid any untoward incident and to secure uninterrupted access to safe drinking water for the area. [KNT]
