Darbar Move: CM Omar Abdullah Receives Warm Reception from Traders at Raghunath Bazar

 

Jammu, Nov 3, KNT: The centuries-old Darbar Move tradition marked a vibrant beginning in Jammu on Monday, as Chief Minister Omar Abdullah formally opened the offices of the Civil Secretariat for the winter session. The occasion turned festive at Raghunath Bazar, where traders welcomed the Chief Minister with garlands, flowers, and enthusiastic cheers.

Markets across Jammu wore a celebratory look, with balloons and buntings adorning shopfronts. Omar Abdullah, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chowdary and senior officials, took a foot march through Raghunath Bazar, interacting with shopkeepers and members of various trader associations. Locals hailed his gesture of personally engaging with the business community, calling it a revival of the spirit of the 150-year-old Darbar Move tradition.

During his interaction, the Chief Minister assured traders of continued support from the government to boost commerce and tourism in the winter capital.

Several traders expressed deep appreciation for the Chief Minister’s presence and commitment:

“Seeing our Chief Minister walking through the market and greeting us personally is a moment of pride,” said Rajesh Gupta, a garment shop owner. “Omar Sahib’s warmth reflects his vision to strengthen the bond between the two capitals.”

Another trader, Pawan Sharma, who runs a textile outlet, said, “The reopening of offices here is not just a ritual, it brings life and business to Jammu. We wholeheartedly thank the Chief Minister for keeping this tradition alive.”

Rakesh Verma, President of the Raghunath Bazar Traders Association, added, “Omar Abdullah’s outreach shows respect for Jammu’s trading community. His assurance on improving infrastructure and easing trade movement has boosted our confidence.”

With the winter session commencing, officials confirmed that all departments are now functional in Jammu. [KNT]
