FAIMA Doctors Association Urges Union Health Minister to Address Lack of Hostel, Basic Facilities at GMC Handwara

Srinagar, Nov 8, KNT: The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has written to Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, J.P. Nadda, expressing concern over the lack of hostel accommodation and basic facilities at the newly established Government Medical College (GMC) Handwara in north Kashmir.

In its letter, FAIMA highlighted that medical students at GMC Handwara continue to face acute hardships due to the absence of proper hostel infrastructure, transport facilities, and safe accommodation. The association said that despite government assurances and formation of a committee in May 2025, no tangible progress has been made since the orders were issued in March 2025.

The letter, signed by FAIMA representatives, stated that students, particularly female students, are forced to live in cramped and unsafe private lodgings, often far from campus, which poses safety risks and financial strain. “This appeal is not made out of formality but genuine fatigue,” the association wrote, adding that the delay has turned “inconvenience into cruelty.”
