Fecal Waste Dumping Sparks Outrage in Pulwama; Environmentalists Demand Action

Srinagar, Nov 16, KNT: Environmentalists have raised serious concern after a sewage tanker, allegedly operating from the SIDCO Complex Lassipora, was seen discharging fecal waste along the banks of the Rambiara river in Pulwama. Visual evidence circulating locally shows the tanker emptying untreated waste near the riverbed, triggering alarm among activists and inhabitants who fear severe ecological contamination.
Terming the act a direct assault on the region’s fragile environment, environmental groups appealed to Deputy Commissioner Pulwama to initiate strict and immediate action against those responsible. They said unchecked disposal of industrial and human waste into natural water channels threatens aquatic life, pollutes downstream areas, and endangers communities relying on the river.
Environmentalists further urged the Central Pollution Control Board and JKPCC Chairman Vasu Yadav to take cognizance of what they described as “a blatant violation of environmental norms.” They stressed that such acts must not go unpunished and called for a comprehensive investigation into waste-management practices at SIDCO Lassipora.
Locals also demanded that authorities deploy regular monitoring teams in the area to prevent further discharge of untreated effluents into the Rambiara river. [KNT]
