Former J&K DGP Calls Red Fort Blast ISI Plot

Jammu, Nov 11, KNT: Former Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police S.P. Vaid on Tuesday said the recent blast near the Red Fort in the national capital pointed to a deeply rooted pattern of radicalisation and alleged transnational militant involvement. Speaking to reporters, Vaid linked the incident to an arrested module of medical professionals and urged urgent action to check rising radicalisation among youth.
Referring to investigators’ findings, Vaid said he believed Dr Umar, reported to be a local of Pulwama, carried out the blast and “became a suicide bomber” after the module of doctors was dismantled. “I think this was an ISI plot through a Jaish module,” he said, adding that the conspiracy “was not hatched in one day” and likely unfolded over several months.
Vaid expressed alarm at the apparent radicalisation of educated youth in the Valley. “Becoming a doctor is the ultimate dream of youth in the Kashmir Valley. Despite becoming a doctor, if you get radicalised and get ready to kill your own countrymen and break your own country, then imagine the kind of radicalisation that is taking place,” he said. He warned that the country must examine what measures are being taken “on this front,” calling the phenomenon a big challenge that requires coordinated action.
Security agencies have been probing the blast and recent seizures related to explosives and militant activity. Vaid urged sustained focus on tracking financial, logistical and ideological links that enable such modules to operate and recruit. He also called for enhanced community awareness and institutional vigilance to prevent vulnerable youth from being drawn into militant networks. [KNT]
