Govt to Provide Ex Gratia for Victims of Nowgam Blast, Rs 10 Lakh for Deceased, Rs 1 Lakh for Injured, Says Health Minister

Srinagar, Nov 15, KNT: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday announced Rs 10 lakh ex gratia for each deceased and Rs 1 lakh for the injured in the accidental explosion at Nowgam Police Station. The announcement was made by Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo, who visited Ujala Hospital to enquire about the condition of the injured personnel and civilians.

Speaking to the news agency Kashmir News Trust after the visit, the minister said she had been directed by the Chief Minister to personally assess the treatment being provided to the victims. “The government will provide Rs 10 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives and Rs one lakh to all the injured. This tragedy has caused unbearable pain, and the government stands firmly with the families during this difficult time,” she said adding that before visiting the hospital, she had visited homes of several victims.

The minister expressed satisfaction with the medical care being provided at Ujala Hospital. “I must appreciate the efforts of the hospital’s doctors and staff. They are treating the injured in the best possible manner and responding with full dedication,” she added.

The Nowgam Police Station blast, which occurred late Friday night during the handling of seized explosive material, killed nine people and left thirty-two injured. Several of the critically wounded were shifted to private medical facilities, including Ujala Hospital, where teams of specialists are attending to them.
