JCO Dies After Falling Into Gorge During Operation in J&K’s Poonch

Poonch, Nov 22, KNT: A Junior Commissioned Officer of the Army died on Friday late evening after slipping into a deep gorge during an operation in the Behramgalla belt of Poonch district, officials said on Saturday.

They said the subedar was part of a search team deployed in the Seri Mastan area when he lost balance on a steep slope and fell into the gorge. The incident took place while the team was negotiating a rugged stretch of terrain as part of an ongoing operation in the region.

Army personnel immediately launched a rescue effort and later recovered the body from the gorge. After completing medico-legal formalities, officials said the mortal remains were sent to the JCO’s hometown for the last rites. [KNT]
