Srinagar, Nov 29, KNT: The People’s Democratic Party on Saturday strongly condemned the ongoing demolition drive, warning that the campaign has pushed vulnerable families into a humanitarian crisis amid freezing winter conditions.
The criticism followed a high-level meeting of the Political Affairs Committee chaired by Mehbooba Mufti to review recent political and administrative developments in Jammu and Kashmir.
After the meeting, PDP Chief Spokesperson Mehboob Beg said the party views the demolition campaign not merely as an administrative action but as a serious humanitarian failure.

“People cannot be left without shelter in the harsh winter. This is not just a policy issue. It is a crisis of humanity,” Beg said, as per the party’s statement.
The party said demolitions carried out during extreme winter violate the basic right to life and dignity and have left families exposed to cold, insecurity and fear.
PDP leaders said razing homes without rehabilitation at this time of the year shows insensitivity to ground realities and could worsen human suffering.
The demolition drive has triggered political reactions across Jammu and Kashmir, particularly after houses and shops were razed in Jammu and parts of central Kashmir. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah earlier accused the administration of selective targeting and running bulldozers without the elected government’s consent.
The PDP said demolitions without safeguards undermine public trust and deepen alienation, especially during the most severe weather period of the year. [KNT]
