Nagrota, Nov 14, KNT: Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Devyani Rana has taken a commanding lead in the Nagrota Assembly by-election, securing 30,230 votes after the completion of seven out of eleven counting rounds.
According to figures available from the counting centre, Devyani Rana is ahead by 21,424 votes, placing her far ahead of her nearest rivals in what is emerging as a one-sided contest.

Harsh Dev Singh of the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party has polled 8,806 votes, while Shamim Begum of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference stands at 7,600 votes. All major contenders, including candidates from J&K Apni Party, Aam Aadmi Party and independent nominees, are trailing by large margins.

Other trailing candidates include Bodh Raj with 316 votes, Anil Sharma with 190 votes, Joginder Singh with 247 votes, Shah Mohd with 173 votes, Gulzar Hussain with 221 votes, Qari Zaheer Abbas Bhatti with 58 votes and Naresh Kumar Chib with 112 votes. NOTA has secured 240 votes so far.
Officials said counting is progressing smoothly and the final picture is expected to become clearer as the remaining rounds are completed. [KNT]
