SMC Calls for Regulated Feeding Spots to Control Dog Population and Ensure Public Safety

 

 

Srinagar, Nov 25, KNT: Srinagar Municipal Corporation has issued a public notice laying down fresh guidelines for feeding community animals within city limits. The directive, issued by the Office of the Commissioner, aims to regulate feeding practices and prevent safety concerns in public spaces.

According to the notice, arrangements for feeding street animals will now be the responsibility of Resident Welfare Associations, Apartment Welfare Associations, Mohalla Committees, Local Body representatives and recognised animal welfare activists. These groups have been asked to identify suitable feeding zones in consultation with the community.

The civic body has instructed that feeding points should be located away from children play areas, entry and exit points, staircases and any location frequently used by senior citizens. Feeding times have also been advised to be set in accordance with movement patterns of children and elderly people.

The SMC said designated feeders must ensure cleanliness at feeding spots and strictly follow guidelines framed by the respective local committees. They have also been asked to assist the Animal Birth Control programme by volunteering in vaccination and controlled release of dogs.

The notice urged locals, volunteers and welfare activists to support the initiative as a compassionate gesture and to help maintain hygiene and order in public areas. [KNT]
