Three Held in Srinagar with Pistol and Live Rounds, UAPA Case Registered

Srinagar, Nov 7, KNT: Srinagar Police foiled a plot by arresting three accused persons and seizing arms and ammunition from their possession, preventing a possible attack in the city.

According to police, a team from Police Station Khanyar, during routine vehicle checking near Mamta Chowk, Konakhan, Dalgate, intercepted a black Royal Enfield motorcycle without a registration number. When signalled to stop, the rider and two pillion passengers tried to escape but were swiftly overpowered by the alert personnel.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Shah Mutayib, son of Manzoor Ahmad Shah, resident of Koolipora Khanyar; Kamran Hassan Shah, son of Ghulam Hassan Shah, resident of Koolipora Khanyar; and Mohammad Nadeem, son of Mohammad Yaseen Salmani, resident of Meerut (U.P.), currently residing at Kawa Mohalla, Khanyar.

A search of their possession led to the recovery of one country-made pistol and nine live rounds. Preliminary investigation suggests the trio was planning to execute a terror-related act in the area using the recovered weapon.

Police have registered a case under FIR No. 51/2025 at Police Station Khanyar under sections 3, 7, and 25 of the Arms Act, sections 20 and 23 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Officials said the investigation is ongoing to trace their associates and determine their possible links with other militant groups. Police hailed the operation as a reflection of their proactive efforts to safeguard peace and stability in Srinagar. [KNT]
