Worker on Safety Duty Fatally Injured in Z-Morh Tunnel Mishap, Succumbs

 

Kangan, Nov 23, KNT: A 24-year-old construction company worker on safety duty inside the Z-Morh Tunnel in Kangan died after being hit by a speeding vehicle. The deceased was identified as Irfan Ahmad Raina, son of late Haji Ghulam Nabi Raina, a local of Gagangir Gund.

According to officials, Irfan was performing routine safety work inside the tunnel when a Tata Mobile bearing registration number JK03K 5847 struck him with force. The impact left him with a deep head injury, leaving him critically wounded at the spot.

Colleagues and locals immediately shifted the injured worker to the Primary Health Centre, Kulan, where doctors provided initial treatment. Medical staff referred him to SKIMS Soura for advanced care. However, sources said he succumbed to his injuries on the way. Doctors at SKIMS declared him brought dead upon arrival.

Police confirmed the accident and said that the young worker had suffered a grievous head wound. Station House Officer Gund, Riyaz Ahmad, told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that a case has been registered and an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the sequence of events and determine possible negligence.

The incident has caused distress among locals in Gagangir and the workforce associated with the ongoing tunnel project. Fellow workers described Irfan as a hardworking labourer who regularly handled safety duties within the tunnel.

Police said further action will follow after the completion of legal formalities and detailed investigation. [KNT]
