Congress Starts District Overhaul in Kashmir Under Ajay Kumar Lallu’s Watch

Srinagar, Dec 1, KNT: Congress Working Committee member and All India Congress Committee incharge for Odisha, Ajay Kumar Lallu, is in Kashmir to oversee the process of selecting district presidents for the party across the Kashmir Valley, as Congress begins a major organisational reshuffle in the region.
Party sources said a large number of senior leaders and workers, including former district presidents, submitted their nomination papers as part of the process. The development marks a significant attempt by the party leadership to reorganise its grassroots structure after a series of political setbacks in recent years.
Addressing party workers, Lallu said he had arrived in Kashmir on the directions of the Congress Working Committee to gather direct feedback from ground-level workers before finalising district leadership. He confirmed that dozens of applications have been received from senior party members seeking district-level responsibilities.
He said the purpose of the exercise is aimed at strengthening the party’s presence on the ground through leadership changes based on organisational performance and grassroots connectivity.

Former Srinagar district president Imtiyaz Khan, who was earlier removed from the party after contesting elections against party policies, also submitted his nomination papers. Speaking to KNT, Khan said he was hopeful of being allowed to return to organisational leadership.
He alleged that internal favouritism had weakened the party in the past and said that nepotism had cost Congress politically in Kashmir. He claimed the ongoing nomination process offered a chance to restore credibility and rebuild trust among grassroots workers.
Party insiders said the leadership exercise is expected to continue for several days, with final appointments to be announced after consultations are completed at the organisational level. [KNT]
