Cyber Police Kupwara handles 692 cyber complaints in 2025, Over Rs 70 lakh secured for victims, 44 stolen mobile phones traced


Kupwara, Dec 31, KNT: The Cyber Police Station Kupwara has reported significant progress in handling cybercrime cases during the year 2025, reflecting growing public awareness and effective coordination with banks and other agencies.
According to official figures released by the police, a total of 692 online cyber complaints were received during the year. These included 596 cases related to financial fraud and 96 complaints pertaining to social media misuse and other cyber-related offences.
Police officials said the total financial involvement in these cases amounted to Rs 1,58,59,030. Through timely intervention, coordination with banking institutions, and legal processes, an amount of Rs 70,09,337.55 was successfully secured or recovered and returned to the victims.

In addition to financial fraud cases, the cyber unit also achieved success in tracing lost and stolen mobile phones. Officials said 44 mobile phones, collectively valued at approximately Rs 6.6 lakh, were traced and restored to their lawful owners during the year.
Police said the achievements underline improved reporting by the public and swift action by investigating teams, which have helped prevent further losses and bring relief to affected individuals.
The Kupwara police have advised inhabitants to remain vigilant against digital scams and immediately report any instance of cyber fraud. [KNT]
