HDFC Bank Holds Over 4,000 Cyber Fraud Awareness Workshops Across India Since April

Srinagar: HDFC Bank has conducted more than 4,000 cyber fraud awareness workshops across India since April this year, reaching over 27,000 citizens as part of its ongoing digital banking awareness drive. The initiative is aimed at educating school and college students, senior citizens, self help groups, customers and employees on secure digital banking practices.
Bank officials said the interactive sessions equipped participants with essential knowledge to avoid online frauds by demonstrating real life examples and videos explaining the methods commonly used by fraudsters. Several workshops were organised in partnership with law enforcement agencies to enhance the outreach and impact of the programme.
The sessions covered a wide range of cyber threats, including digital arrest, investment scams, APK frauds, phishing, smishing, vishing, SIM swap, remote access scams and UPI related frauds. Trainers highlighted how fraudsters often exploit fear, urgency or requests for help to manipulate victims.

Participants were also briefed on practical measures for safe banking, with the Bank’s awareness mascot Vigil Aunty used to reinforce simple and effective safety tips. Citizens were advised not to share confidential information, avoid clicking on unknown links and refrain from downloading APK files or attachments sent through email, SMS or WhatsApp, especially when impersonation is suspected.
Commenting on the initiative, Manish Agrawal, Senior Executive Vice President Credit Intelligence and Control at HDFC Bank, said fraudsters are increasingly relying on social engineering and technology to deceive customers. He emphasised that public awareness is essential to prevent data compromise and financial loss. He urged citizens to pause, think and verify before taking any digital action.
