Leopard tranquilised after injuring trio in South Kashmir’s Shopian

Shopian, Dec 27, KNT: A leopard was finally tranquilised by a joint team of the Wildlife Department, police and Army after it injured three persons in the Pinjora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday, triggering widespread panic in the locality.

Officials said the leopard attacked and injured three persons in and around the Pinjora area, creating fear among locals as the animal continued to move through inhabited zones. The injured were shifted to hospital for medical treatment, while authorities rushed teams to the spot to prevent further harm.

Following the incidents, personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Wildlife Department, assisted by Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Indian Army, launched a coordinated operation to track and capture the animal.

After hours of effort, the leopard was successfully tranquilised, bringing an end to the tense situation. Officials said the operation was carried out carefully to ensure the safety of both people and the animal.

The incidents led to a massive rush of people to the area, with thousands gathering near the site, further complicating the operation.

The Wildlife Department said the leopard will be shifted as per standard procedure, while further assessment will be carried out to prevent similar incidents in forest fringe areas. [KNT]
