NC President Urges Unity, Says Some Voices Within Are Working Against the Party

Srinagar, Dec 5, CNS: National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah on Friday cautioned that while the party is working to strengthen its organisational structure at every level, certain voices from within are regrettably speaking against it. He said that whatever institutions and safeguards people have today are the result of the party’s historic role and decades of collective sacrifice.
Addressing a gathering at Naseem Bagh on the 120th birth anniversary of Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah, Dr Farooq said that internal discipline was crucial as the party prepares for upcoming electoral exercises. “We are making changes to strengthen the organisation, but unfortunately some of our own people are speaking against the party. Everything we have today is because of the party,” he said.
Responding to questions about the government’s performance, he noted that expectations must be realistic given the limited administrative authority available to elected representatives. “What can a government achieve in just one year when most powers lie with the Lieutenant Governor? Even so, the government is making every effort to serve the people,” he stated.

Dr Farooq also emphasised the need to introduce young and educated faces, particularly women, into active politics ahead of the Urban Local Body and Panchayat elections. He said that the future depended on empowering the next generation. “The youth must take charge now. Our educated boys and girls need to step forward and serve their people,” he added.
The NC President urged party workers to uphold unity and discipline, saying this was essential to preserve Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah’s vision of empowerment and equality. (CNS)
